High Speed Internet is coming to your place soon!

The Government's Objective

The New Zealand Government is committed to the roll-out of ultra fast broadband services to 75% of the population, ideally over the next 10 years (to 2021). Their company, Crown Fibre Holdings Ltd was established to manage this $1.5 billion investment. To make this possible, they have partnered with other New Zealand organisations to assist with the design and implementation of this plan.

Ultrafast Fibre Ltd

The Waikato based WEL Networks was recently successful in winning a contract to be one of those partners. WEL Networks then formed a special purpose company called Waikato Networks Ltd which then formed a new company with Crown Fibre Holdings Ltd and this is called Ultrafast Fibre Ltd. This new company is responsible for the implementation of high speed internet services to selected areas of the central North Island. Therefore, Ultrafast Fibre Ltd will design, implement and then provide high speed internet to a selection of Retail (Internet) Service Providers, who will then be able to supply to you!

Benefits

These new open access fibre networks are the future and will enhance New Zealand's competitiveness and productivity. On completion, potentially more than 10,000 business premises, 1,560 medical and health care providers and some 150 schools will have access to Ultrafast Broadband. Of course, thousands of residential homes will benefit too. This is all part of the Government's strategy to revolutionise information technology in New Zealand.

How will you benefit from faster internet speeds? The advancement of technology means that many new software applications are being designed to run on a higher bandwidth allowing massive volumes of data and visuals to be uploaded or downloaded in a fraction of time. Whether your internet usage is for business, eduation, medical needs or home use and entertainment - high speed internet will become a necessity - just as moving away from dial up was the first step - and your access to internet based information will become so much faster.

When will it arrive in your region? Refer to our Coverage Areas page for details on our designated regions in the central North Island. Our roll-out plan is expected to commence mid-2011 and take five years to complete.

Do you need to buy anything to set it up? At the moment you don't need anything - but once fibre rollout begins, this website and our Facebook page will keep you updated on where Ultrafast Broadband is available. Sign up with your details and we will contact you when we are installing in your area. When installation is completed you will be able to contact your preferred Retail (Internet) Service Provider from the list on our website.

How do you go about getting connected? We will provide fibre right up to your premises, ending in a small, discreet box called an Optical Network Termination (ONT) unit which will normally be located somewhere central on your property. There is not expected to be any charge for residential connections.
